Camden County Bond Scam: What Georgia Families Need to Know

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office has warned residents about an ongoing Camden County bond scam targeting families of recently arrested individuals. Scammers are posing as bail bondsmen, law enforcement officers, or court officials and attempting to pressure families into sending money immediately.
These scams often begin with a late-night phone call claiming a loved one needs bond money “right now” or they will remain in jail, face additional charges, or lose the opportunity to bond out. The caller may demand payment through Cash App, wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

How the Camden County Bond Scam Works
Families should understand this clearly: legitimate Georgia bondsmen do not create panic or false urgency.
A licensed bondsman is not operating under a countdown clock. A real bondsman will not tell you that you only have minutes to act or pressure you into sending money immediately before you can verify information. Legitimate bond companies understand families need time to contact the jail, speak with an attorney, review paperwork, and confirm bond amounts.
In Georgia, bonding companies must also be approved by the county sheriff to operate in that county. Before sending money, families should independently verify that the bondsman is authorized to work in Camden County.
Legitimate bondsmen will identify themselves, provide company information, answer questions, and allow you time to make informed decisions. Scammers rely on fear, confusion, and urgency because they do not want victims verifying the truth.
If you receive a suspicious call related to a Camden County bond scam, hang up immediately and contact the jail or sheriff’s office directly using a publicly listed phone number.
